I remember the request like it was yesterday: “Daddy, do you have any pop tabs? My class is collecting them for the Ronald McDonald House.” Both of my daughters took great care and were quite meticulous when collecting pop tabs.

As a result of the pop tabs and a unique combination of conversations, I joined the Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico (RMHC-NM) Board of Directors in 2002. During that time, I’ve had a chance to serve the organization in a variety of ways that includes leadership and capital campaign projects to preparing meals and supporting events.IMG_7301

When I decided to enter the Ironman 70.3 Boulder Triathlon as a One Medal race, it made perfect sense for me to run in honor of the families served by RMHC-NM.  My story about the race can be found by clicking on this link.

Many of my friends were gracious to donate their resources for the families who seek refuge at the house.  In addition, One Medal and the Albuquerque Sole Sisters took a break from training for various races to make dinner for the families.

In case you aren’t aware, the RMHC-NM provides a home away from home for families whose children are in need of medical treatment. Instead of sharing information you can learn from their website, I want to use this space to share the gratitude of the families who have been served by the gift of hospitality.
